From January 2017, there are new motor efficiency requirements for electric 3-phase motors 0.75kW to 5.5kW.

Motors 0.75kW and larger, need to be IE3, unless they are to be used with a variable speed drive, in which case they can still be IE2.

For further information, see our Motor efficiencies page

Apr 16 On 20th April 2016, the ATEX directive 94/9/EC was replaced by the directive 2014/34/EU.

This meant the current ATEX EU declaration of conformity changed as did the ATEX instruction manual. Pumps supplied up to and including 19th April 2016 needed to conform to 94/9/EC.

The scope, essential health and safety requirements and conformity assessment procedures were unchanged.

From January 2015, there were new motor efficiency requirements for electric 3-phase motors 7.5kW and upwards.

Motors 7.5kW and larger, needed to be IE3, unless they were used with a variable speed drive, in which case they could still be IE2.

Feb 14 MDM have manufactured some H range centrifugal pumps with a maximum ferrite level of 5% especially for a pharmaceutical application.

As the pumps are manufactured from solid bar, MDM could measure the ferrite levels in the raw material, and ensure that only bars with a ferrite level of less than 5% were used.

Then using special 0% ferrite welding rods, the pump parts were fabricated.

Previously, MDM have manufactured H range centrifugal pumps with a ferrite level of only 0.5%. But this involved buying a specially formulated batch of 316L stainless steel.

It is believed that low levels of ferrite reduces the rouging seen in some pharmaceutical systems.

MDM have introduced a new K3 range of strainers.

These are cheaper than the K2 range and are fitted with 'tri-clamp' clamp rings and the cartridge welded to the lid. These strainers can be fitted with stainless steel wedge wire, woven wire mesh, sintered mesh or perforated sheet cartridges.

We have been supplying strainers with sintered mesh cartridges since October 2010 .

They consist of a fine square weave mesh and a support layer of square weave mesh, which has been sintered (fused together) using heat and pressure to form a 2 layer laminate. This provides a minimum pressure drop together with excellent backflush performance.

Customers who like the strength of the wedge wire cartridge, but dislike the slot design, have found the sintered mesh to be a good solution.

With the ability to manufacture tailor-made strainers, we have recently supplied specially designed basket strainers to a distillery in Scotland.

For further information, see our Strainer page

Jan 12 Vent valves are now supplied with FDA (Food and Drug Administration) compliant materials as standard.

In many applications there is a requirement for the materials to be FDA-compliant. This applies to the wetted parts and includes the elastomers.

For further information, see our Vent valve page

From June 2011, there were new motor efficiency requirements for motors. Most motors needed to be IE2 (EFF1).

Oct 10 MDM has manufactured some pumps in Hastelloy C-22, which is a versatile nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten alloy, with outstanding resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.

The pumps are being used in a pharmaceutical application.

For further information, see our Hastelloy page

Jan 10 All pumps supplied from 1st January 2010 comply with the latest EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, are CE marked and have an EC certificate of conformity.

As the pound remains weak, buying British manufactured pumps still makes more sense. Pumps imported into the UK have risen in price by up to 30% over the last 3 years, whilst  the pound has weakened by 30% against the Euro since January 2007, and by 20% since January 2008. Whether you are based in the UK or outside the UK, contact us or our distributors today to benefit from the weak pound.

Mar 09 The H range of hygienic centrifugal pumps has been expanded to include:
A new H261 model (260mm impeller diameter).
Motors of 30kW to 75kW (previously up to 22kW).
Connections of up to 150mm (6).
Flows up to 280 m/h.

Buying British manufactured pumps now makes even more sense as the pound has weakened, pumps imported into the UK have risen in price by up to 30% over the last 2 years. If you are based in the UK and are not prepared to accept such increases, contact us today for a quote.

If you are based outside the UK, contact us or our distributors today to benefit from the weak pound, eg the pound has weakened by 30% against the Euro since January 2007, and by 20% since January 2008.

Jan 09 MDM PUMPS LTD are one of the first companies to achieve the latest quality standard ISO 9001:2008.

Jan 08 New high efficiency D121 pump model launched.

Replacing the D2 & D2W pumps, the D121 has improved hygiene. It is fitted with an improved cover joint ring, impeller locknut 'O' ring and impeller shaft 'O' ring.

The D121 delivers pressures up to 2 bar.

Mar 07 New high efficiency H141 & H241 pump models launched.

The H141 delivers pressures up to 3 bar and H241 up to 10 bar.

Nov 06 MDM PUMPS LTD are pleased to announce the launch of their new high efficiency H161, H191 & H221 pump models.

Compared with the previous models, they deliver up to 40% greater head with an improvement in efficiency of up to 33% (therefore many applications can be significantly cheaper).

The pumps share the majority of components with the original H160, H190 & H220 models, but incorporate new impeller and cover designs at no extra cost.

The H161 delivers pressures up to 4.5 bar,  H191 up to 6 bar and the H221 up to 8 bar.

 * According to the 'European Guide to Pump efficiency for single stage centrifugal pumps' (European Commision 2003), the majority of our pumps are classified as optimum efficiency selections or efficient selections.
