New motor efficiency requirements - IE1,
IE2 & IE3 (EU regulation 640/2009 and
IEC 60034-30:2008)
|
|
From June 2011, there are new
efficiency requirements for most1
3-phase single speed motors fitted to our pumps.
IE1, IE2 and IE3 will
replace efficiency classes EFF2 and EFF1.
Motor efficiencies:
 |
IE1
- Standard efficiency (comparable to EFF2) |
 |
IE2
- High efficiency (comparable to EFF1) |
 |
IE3
- Premium efficiency |
 |
IE4
- Super premium efficiency (not yet defined)

1.
The regulations don't apply to motors specifically designed to operate
 |
i) at altitudes
exceeding 1,000 m above sea-level; |
 |
ii) where
ambient air temperatures exceed 40°C; |
 |
iii) in
potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX). |
2. From 16/06/2011,
the motor manufacturers cannot directly sell IE1 (EFF2) motors, but existing
stock in the supply chain can still be sold.
Note: For the UK
market, MDM Pumps can supply motors which are eligible for the Enhanced
Capital Allowance (ECA) scheme. |
